Your friends and family might live across the nation or all over the world. It may be difficult to find the time to travel and get together in person, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy an excellent relationship and stay up to date with each other. New technology including alternatives to traditional land line services makes it easy and inexpensive. Check out these tips to keep the conversation going.

    1. Set A Date

Pick a certain day to talk with your loved ones based on what is convenient for everyone. Mark it on your calendar. You could even set an alarm to remind you to contact them. Picking out a particular schedule can be extremely helpful if you reside in different time zones. You may be getting ready for work while your friend is cleaning up before bedtime, but you will both be happy to chat for a few minutes and hear each other’s latest developments.

    2. Make A List

If you don’t talk to your loved ones very often, keep a running list of topics to share with them when you do touch base. That way, you won’t forget to give them a big update on your job or family or fill them in on the small stuff, which can be just as important. Make notes after your conversation so you remember to ask for news on topics you recently discussed during your next call.

    3. Enjoy An Activity

Even though you might be separated by miles, you can still have fun together. Pick a movie and watch it at the same time, exchanging laughs and commentary while the story unfolds. Find a new recipe to cook while you chat. If you are located in similar areas of the country, you could even view the sunset or sunrise while you catch up on the events of the day and plan for what’s to come.

Thanks to modern technology, it’s easier than ever to stay connected to your circle. Take time to nurture the relationships in your life. Whether you are sharing good news such as a promotion, good grades, or a child’s milestones or offering a shoulder to cry on when the going gets tough, communication is key to keeping those bonds strong. Make time to talk, write, and visit when you can. That little bit of effort can pay off dividends in the long run, and you can create memories that will last a lifetime.
