    Mount Cameroon is the highest mountain in West Africa at 3,681 m (12,675 ft). It is located in Cameroon, about 200 km (120 mi) northeast of the Atlantic Ocean and 1,000 km (600 mi) west of the Equator. The mountain’s name means “mountain of white men,” and it was first sighted by Europeans on the voyage of Henry Stanley around 1885. The mountain has a maximum elevation of 4,100 m (13,450 ft), but its lowest point is 1,700 m (5,600 ft). Mount Cameroon is an important source of rain for much of West Africa.

    Mount Cameroon hiking season occurs between the months of May and October. This is the best time to visit Mount Cameroon because temperatures are cooler, which means less chance of rain and more likelihood of clear skies. Hiking in this season also allows visitors to get a glimpse of the flora and fauna while they are still alive.

    The hiking season is from April to November and can be done in any weather, but it is usually cold and wet during this time period. If you’re planning on hiking Mount Cameroon in the fall or spring when temperatures are lower, you should bring warm clothing such as sweaters instead of heavy jackets just in case there’s an unexpected change. For many of mountains like Ama Dablam, Everest, Manaslu, Mera Peak, Ojos del salado, Island peak and Aconcagua, carry an extra jackets.

    The best time to hike Mount Cameroon is in the spring or fall when the temperatures are warmer and there are fewer mosquitoes. The temperature on Mount Cameroon can get as low as -10 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter months (November through March), while it can get up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer months (April through September).

    The best way to prepare for your trip to Mount Cameroon is by wearing appropriate clothing including long underwear layers and waterproof boots or shoes with a sturdy sole that provides traction on muddy trails. You should also bring plenty of water since you will be hiking up steep slopes with little or no shade for hours at a time.
