People don’t spend enough time talking about discoverability. That’s a shame because it should be a part of every brand’s online marketing strategy. What is it?

Discoverability is the likelihood of your brand showing up when people search online for relevant content, products, and services.

Essentially, it’s all about getting noticed online. You can improve your discoverability by:

    • Having a professionally designed website that works for all devices
    • Creating relevant content targeted at your audience
    • Earning an excellent reputation among your customers and peers
    • Building a powerful social media presence
    • Optimizing your content for relevant keywords

If you’ve done all of these things, you may have noticed that you still aren’t getting the results you want. If so, keep reading. Here is a list of five websites that will help your brand get noticed.

Do you want to improve your local presence? Pay close attention. Many sites on this list can boost local searches.

    1.   Google My Business

Do you have a brick-and-mortar business? If not, do you offer person-to-person services to your customers? If your answer is yes, you can use Google My Business. This free tool allows you to leverage more control over your brand’s Google presence.

To get started, you have to go through a verification process to show that you are a legitimate company operating in the location you specify. Once you’ve done that, you can create your profile.

This will contain your business name, location, contact information, hours, and information about your services. You can also add pictures and relevant content. Once your profile is live, you can respond to reviews and answer customer questions.

Great news! Once your profile is out there, your company is eligible to appear in Google’s coveted “local three-pack” search results.

    2.   Everybody Wiki

Everybody Wiki may not be the most well-known directory, but it has a lot going for it. Businesses who use it get an external platform to share anything they want about their company, products, and leadership.

You won’t find that anywhere else outside your own website and social media pages. It’s an excellent tool for personal branding, as well. For example, Alex Brown has created a page detailing his professional accomplishments, expertise, and career history.

Because the site allows external links, you can use it to connect your presence to your:

    • Business website
    • Social media pages
    • Relevant articles and blog posts

Everybody Wiki is free, so you are virtually guaranteed a great return on your investment.

    3.   Better Business Bureau

More than ever, consumers spend time researching companies before purchasing their products and services. They read online reviews and business profiles and seek out any information about a company’s reputation.

There are nearly unlimited websites that contain this information. Many of them are relatively new. Despite this, one of the most popular resources for discovering businesses is among the oldest.

The BBB is more than 100 years old, but customers still use the site to judge the reputation of the brands that interest them. It’s worth going through creating an account and getting accredited.

    4.   LinkedIn Company Directory

LinkedIn is widely viewed as a social media platform for professional networking. Hopefully, you’ve already taken the time to create an active presence there for yourself and your company.

If you haven’t, there’s one more reason to get started. The LinkedIn company directory is a tool that allows people to search for companies like yours by name, location, and industry.

Users can also use the tool to discover whether they have any connections with your brand. For example, they can see if they know someone at your company or whether they’re connected with anyone who does.

    5.   Yelp for Business

Yelp is an extraordinarily popular site that allows users to post reviews and information about local businesses. However, it doesn’t leave brands out in the cold. Instead, companies are encouraged to create or “claim” their Yelp listing by making a company profile.

What are the benefits? Once you create a profile on Yelp, you gain some control over the information posted there. That includes ensuring that all of your NAP (name address profile) data is correct and up to date. You’ll also be able to respond to user reviews and communicate with customers directly.

    Final Thoughts: Be Selective

There are dozens of website directories online. Unfortunately, many of them don’t get the traffic required to make a difference. Don’t spread yourself too thin, attempting to get listed everywhere. Instead, focus on this shortlist of reputable directories that are sure to get you noticed.
