It’s a little frustrating to look in the mirror after a long day and see your makeup fading, and you can’t help but wonder if you’ve looked like that for more than half the day. Applying layers of makeup is hard work and no one wants to see it ruined right away. In this article, we’ll be giving out some tips on how you can achieve long lasting makeup that will stay in place throughout the day.
Skincare is important
Before we go to the real deal, skincare is as important as applying makeup properly. You should make a routine where there is exfoliating, toning, and moisturizing. Skincare is preparing your skin to get a smoother finished look.
Prime away
Primers are a must in having long-lasting makeup, it’s recommended to apply face and eye primers to cover and fill in pores, creases, and fine lines to get a smooth surface for your foundation. A water-based primer is better than an oil-based primer, so your skin can absorb and it dries with a natural look.
Invest in a water-based foundation
If you have a drier skin type, make sure to moisturize well before applying an oil-free foundation. Choose a long-wearing version that will smoothen your skin throughout the day. Always choose a water based-foundation, because an oil-based foundation could make your makeup slide off easily
Use waterproof mascara and eyeliner
If you want your eye to be expressive and look fierce all day, then go for waterproof mascara and eyeliner. This will keep your winged eyeliner from fading, prevent you from having “raccoon eyes”, and your thick lashes from crumbling.
Cover with translucent powder
After applying all products, try putting on a light translucent setting powder. Not only does this absorb the excess oil left on your skin, but it also makes your makeup last much longer. Get a pressed version of translucent powder that you can carry around to absorb oil throughout the day whenever you need it.
Top it off with a setting spray
Setting sprays are so popular these days that there is now a wider range of different formulas like matte, moisturizing, and some even contain luminescent pigments to enhance shine. Not only does it refresh your makeup, but it locks in your makeup and lasts all day.
Blotting is your best friend
If your face is starting to get oily within the day, you can remove this by using either blotting paper or a beauty blender sponge. If it’s for a quick fix or if you’ll only be doing this once or twice a day, you can go ahead and use blotting paper, but if you do have oilier skin and if you might have to do this more than twice a day, a beauty blender sponge is best for you since blotting papers absorbs more makeup.
Carry your essentials
If you’re planning on wearing the same makeup from day till night, it’s best to carry a backup. Bring a small kit or pouch with your essential makeup and brushes to retouch if you feel like your look is starting to fade.
